What is the M20/P130SCR?
The M20/P130SCR is a McGraw Edison Form 3 Form 3A Line Recloser Battery. This is a 20 cell Nickel Cadmium rechargeable battery pack specifically designed to work in Cooper Power Systems Form 3 and 3A line reclosers.
What is a recloser?
A recloser is used to shut off electrical power when a short circuit, or other issue, is detected in a high voltage power line. A recloser automatically tests the line and determines if the problem is still present. If not, it automatically resets itself and restores the power to the line. Most (80%-90%) of issues with high voltage lines are temporary. The recloser continues to test the line three times before it permanently shuts off power and a crew is alerted to investigate the issue, reset the recloser, and restore power. While useful, these reclosers may also cause more damage to your lines by increasing force on your lines due to the re-testing of lines when an issue occurs.

The M20/P130SCR is a 20 cell Nickel Cadmium rechargeable battery pack. This ENERGY+ battery is made with special high temperature Nickel Cadmium battery cells. It has an output of 24 Volts and 1500 mAh. The mAh (milliAmp hours) shows the capacity of the battery. The higher the mAh, the higher the capacity (the longer the battery will run).
This M20/P130SCR has additional capacity when compared to the original battery pack so it will last longer before needing to be replaced. It replaces the McGraw Edison Cooper Power batteries MEA-450, MEA-460, KA450ME2S and battery part number N20023185.

The M20/P130SCR is a 20 cell battery, what does that mean exactly?
Every battery has three components: the anode (negative (-) side), the cathode (positive (+) side) and an electrolyte (a substance that creates a chemical reaction with the anode and cathode.) When the electrolyte reacts with the anode, electrons are produced in a chemical reaction called oxidation. At the same time, the electrolyte also reacts with the cathode in a reaction called reduction. Reduction requires electrons. So the electrons naturally want to travel from the anode to the cathode but the electrolyte makes it difficult. When we create a circuit using electrically conductive materials (wires), the electrons flow from the anode through the circuit and back to the cathode. When we have a device (e.g. a light or a motor) in the circuit, the electrons travel through it to power it.
A cell is simply one anode and cathode separated by the electrolyte. A standard AA battery is a one cell battery. A car battery has 6 cells. The M20/P130SCR contains 20 cells.
